WANDERERS TO REVIVE TITLE HOPES IN MIGHTY WAR
Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have chances to cut the gap to leaders, Silver Strikers, to four points as they face Mighty Tigers at the Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Nomads return to the league after after a disappointing 0-1 defeat in the hands of Silver Strikers in the Airtel Top 8 semi finals last week before walloping Chipoka United 10-1 in the Castel Challenge Cup on Tuesday.
The Blue side have struggled to beat the Kaukau boys as they have managed just one win and four draws in the past five meetings and a win will help them reduce their gap to four points on the Bankers.
Assistant coach for the Nomads, Bob Mpinganjira, said his team has agreed to win the match as they need to fight for the League.
"We are playing Tigers on Sunday, we have prepared very well and all players look good with the molare high in the camp we are expecting a win." Said Mpinganjira.
However, he said the Nomads will not have two of its midfielders, M
Mphatso Kamanga and Vitumbiko Kumwenda due to injuries but will see the return of their captain, Lawrence Chaziya, who was serving a suspension.
The Nomads have managed to collect 47 points from 24 games this season and will have a change to pick 18 points from their last 6 games in order to catch Silver Strikers which has 54 points from the same number of games.

CHAWINGA INSPIRES KC CURRENT TO PLAYOFFS' SEMIS
Scorchers forward, Temwa Chawinga, was on target again as her lone goal took Kansas City Current into the semi finals of the National Women's Soccer League playoffs in United States of America as they beat North Carolina Women 1-0 on Saturday.
Chawinga got the goal on 8th minute of the game after Debinha's shot hit the post and her first was blocked on the line before her second attempt winning the match.

"IT WAS SILVER VS BULLETS NOT MPONDA VS PASUWA" - PASUWA
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head coach, Kalisto Pasuwa, quashed sentiments that the Airtel Top 8 final was a meeting between him and his former deputy, Peter Mponda by saying it was Silver Strikers playing FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and that they are just coaches who can leave the teams anytime.
He said this after the match where his team beat the Bankers 0-1 at the Bingu National Stadium to lift the Airtel Top 8 where Mponda said Bullets did not deserve to as they dominated the play but Pasuwa said a cup game needs goals not dominance.
He said: "It was Bullets versus Silver Strikers and I dont think it was Mponda versus Pasuwa. You know us are coaches who come to the team and in the near future we will not be there and we just do our work at the teams." Said Pasuwa.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwean has become the first ever coach to defend the Airtel Top 8 and now has managed to guide the People's team to their third Top 8 trophy.

FOMO SAYS THEY WILL STAY IN THE LEAGUE
Mulanje based side, FOMO FC, missed a chance to move out of the relegation zone of the TNM Super League table as they return home with no point from two games following a 2-1 defeat in hands of Chitipa United on Saturday afternoon.
In a similar fashion like against Baka City, FOMO were the first to score courtesy of Hassan Luwembe on 5th minute but Andrew Joseph levelled the scores with his 6th goal of the week on 28th minute and Ramadan Ntafu netted the winner from the spot on 80th minute to seal the win.
Team manager for the team, Harry Nyirenda, thanked his boys for playing well in the game and said his team will not be relegated this season.
"I think this was not the result we were to get in this match but because of some factors we have lost, we accept the defeat and we will go back, sort out our errors and look ahead. We will not get relegated this season." Said Nyirenda.
The team has now moved a step back to 15th on the log table as t
"IN CUPS YOU NEED A RESULT NOT BEAUTIFUL FOOTBALL" - PASUWA
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head coach, Kalisto Pasuwa, says a cup game needs a team to get a positive result not to play beautiful football that's why they are the Champions of the Airtel Top 8 because they have won not played well.
He said this after beating Silver Strikers in the final of the Airtel Top 8 at the Bingu National Stadium and said his boys were busy closing up the Bankers in the first half and had to open up in the second half.
"A very tactical game where maybe most of the times in the first half we were trying to close spaces the opposition at times dominating play but going in the side. But maybe coming up second half we tried to push up numbers in attack and we had one of the crosses and we got a goal, then we missed another one which was a clear seater from one of our Strikers but that's how Football is these are cup games where you don't need beautiful football but you need a result at the end of the day and
we got it." Said Pasuwa.
He further said that referees are architectures of many injuries to his players as they do nothing when their player is fouled and in the case of Crispin Mapemba, his ankle was swollen after facing a heavy tackle.
The People's team have now won the Airtel Top 8 for the third time having won it in 2021, 2023 and now in 2024 and it becomes their first trophy this year.

"BULLETS DIDN'T DESERVE TO WIN" - MPONDA
Silver Strikers head coach, Peter Mponda, says FCB Nyasa Big Bullets were just lucky to win the Airtel Top 8 final as it was his side that dominated the play in the game and deserved to lift the trophy.
He said this after the match which they lost 0-1 at the Bingu National Stadium on Saturday afternoon and believes FCB Nyasa Big Bullets did nothing that has made them to win the game.
"It's a painful defeat we did everything we analysed them we neutralised their strength, I don't think that Bullets did anything to deserve to win this game and sometimes in football you need lucky to win and that's what has happened to Bullets today." Said Mponda.
This could have been the team's first trophy under Mponda and their possible trophy to lift this season is the TNM Super League which Mighty Mukuru Wanderers is trying to challenge them.

Mponda explains how to beat Bullets
Silver Strikers head coach, Peter Mponda, says his team needs to find a way to break FCB Nyasa Big Bullets' defense as they seem to have solid defense but still they are weak in the attack.
He said this ahead of their Airtel Top 8 final against the People's team on Saturday at the Bingu National Stadium and said looking at how these teams have scored and conceded goals in the tournament, he has to use that in order to win the game.
"We have scored 7 and conceded two whereas our friends have scored four they haven't conceded , we need to fight a way to unlock their defense it looks like they are tight at the back, they are not attacking much that's why they haven't scored goals." Said Mponda.
The Bankers will be looking for their first trophy with Peter Mponda as their head coach and will have to beat the defending Champions in the final.
The Bankers had to beat Mighty Mukuru Wanderers 1-0 to book a place in the final whereas FCB Nyasa Big Bullet
MPONDA HAPPY WITH SILVER'S STATE
Silver Strikers head coach, Peter Mponda, says he is very happy with how his team is so far as they have performed very well despite that it was a new team under a new coach but the players adapted well to the way they play.
Mponda spoke this ahead of their match against FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in the Airtel Top 8 finals at the Bingu National Stadium on Saturday afternoon where he sees many good reasons to win the trophy.
"It's a mixed feeling there's is a little bit of pressure that we have to win this fight but also it is a good team because it was a new squad, a new coach, the guys adapted to the way we played and I'm happy with the way we are." Said Mponda.
He further applauded the hard work of the players that has seen them placed on where they are now, in the League where they are top and in the final of the Airtel Top 8.
"The guys have worked hard to be where they are at this point of the season. If you look at the League, we haven't lost any
game and we worked so hard in the Airtel from Quarter finals, Semi final reaching into the final." Added Mponda.
Ahead of the big fixture where he is facing is boyhood side, he said his team is very ready but will have to work very hard in order to win the trophy which he believes it is a reward for the team's hard work this season.
The Bankers had to beat Mighty Mukuru Wanderers in the semi finals last week 1-0 to book their place in the final and they will be up for a revenge as last year, they were beaten on penalties by the People's team in the final.

The team has confirmed about the absence of the two players through it's website ahead of the big match against FCB Nyasa Big Bullets on Saturday at the Bingu National Stadium.
Mwase picked two yellow cards in the team's 1-0 win over Mighty Mukuru Wanderers in the semi final of the tournament last week while Duncan Nyoni picked a muscle injury when the team played Panthers FC in the Castel Challenge Cup where he scored two goals to force the game into penalties.
Nyoni joins Tatenda M'balaka in the team's injury list.
"WE HAVE A GOOD SQUAD THAN BULLETS" - MPONDA
Silver Strikers head coach, Peter Mponda says his team has a very good squad compared to that of FCB Nyasa Big Bullets but they need to work extra hard in order to win the Airtel Top 8 this season.
The former FCB Nyasa Big Bullets deputy coach said this ahead of the Airtel Top 8 final at the Bingu National Stadium on Saturday against his former team and said his team is very ready to eclipse the results of the last season when they lost in the final.
He however saluted his team for working hard this season in their matches and believes winning the trophy could be a reward to the team.

"IF A FATHER PUNISHES A SON, CAN HE DISAPPEAR FOR GOOD?" - PASUWA
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head coach, Kalisto Pasuwa says he does not know the whereabouts of the team's forward, Hassan Kajoke, and that he has never appeared to the club since being punished by the team.
The Zimbabwean said this during a media briefing ahead of the team's Airtel Top 8 final against Silver Strikers at the Bingu National Stadium on Saturday.
He said, "About Kajoke, I don't know where he is as of now and you know, if you are a child and a father punishes you, will you not even come back and say hello because he punished you? Kajoke has never been here even to watch training or his friends playing."
He further said if Kajoke was humble, he could have had his punishment reduced and be considered back to the team.
"I have coached a lot of players and one thing that a player needs is humbleness. If he was coming here and maybe approach the bosses and say yes I did wrong maybe he could have been forgiven."

"WE HAVEN'T GIVEN UP IN THE LEAGUE" - PASUWA
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head coach, Kalisto Pasuwa downplayed remarks that his team has already given up on chances to win the League and put much focus on Cups as he said every tournament bring money.
He said this when talking to the media ahead of their Airtel Top 8 final against Silver Strikers at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday.
He said it is maybe just the mindset of the players that if they lose a cup game they are out hence they fight more in the cups than the League but they are still fighting in every competition.
"No. It's not like that [we have given up] but I think it's the approach of the players on the matches. However every game brings money, the League and the cup so we need to work hard in every tournament but may be in the minds they think if you lose a cup game you are out that's why they are put their hearts most in Cup games." Said Pasuwa.
Meanwhile, the People's team have struggled with consistency in
the League as they have 44 points from 25 games while they have reached two finals of the FDH Bank Cup and now Airtel Top 8.
The team is looking for their first trophy in the 2024 season and they will have to beat Silver Strikers if they are to defend the Airtel Top 8.

"SILVER HAS BEEN DOING WELL DOMESTICALLY" - PASUWA
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head coach, Kalisto Pasuwa, said he will go with full force in the Airtel Top 8 final match against Silver Strikers on Saturday as they face a team that has been doing better locally.
Pasuwa said this on Thursday to the media ahead of the big match at the Bingu National Stadium where he talked of congestion of fixtures which is making them to have no time to train ahead of the match.
"Yesterday we played and today we do recovery tomorrow we travel so it's not giving us time to train a thing that just needs us to manage the squad ahead of the match." Said Pasuwa.
He further said he is not underrating any team this season and against the Bankers, he expects a tough match as they face the best team currently in Malawi.
The People's team managed to beat Kamuzu Barracks 2-0 at the Bingu National Stadium last Sunday in the semi finals to book a place into the final.

FOMO MISSES RELEGATION ZONE EXIT
FOMO FC missed a chance to move out of the TNM Super League relegation zone after suffering a shock 2-1 defeat over already relegated Baka City at the Karonga Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
A win for the team could have leapfrogged Bangwe All Stars on the log table and got a lead on 14th minute when Hassan Hussein put them ahead but Baka City came with damage in the second half when Tambulani Mwale scored from the spot on 47th minute before Augustin Msowoya netting the winner three minutes later.
Team manager for the team, Harry Nyirenda, said it is a painful defeat but they will sort out their problems so that they should win against Chitipa United.
"We should thank the boys for playing very well despite losing you know we travelled yesterday and their bodies were tired and secondly, we missed chances hence we lost." Said Nyirenda.
The result means they still stay 14th on the table with 22 points from 25 games, two points behind Bangwe All Stars
RELEGATED BAKA STUN RELEGATION THREATENED FOMO
TNM Super League relegated side, Baka City, has secured their first win in the second round of the league as they came from behind to beat relegation threatened side, FOMO FC 2-1 at the Karonga Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
FOMO scored an opener through Hussein Hassan on 14th minute but Tambulani Mwale pulled level on 47th minute from the spot before Augustin Msowoya netting the winner three minutes later.
Team manager for the team, Davie Kayira, said his players were told to be more serious in the second half after a sloppy first half that's why they won the game.
"In the first half we did not play well and we told the boys to be serious at half time and in the second half we came strong and got those two goals in the game." Said Kayira.
The win is second for the team this season as they now have 11 points from 26 games and they are still anchoring the table.
"THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU UNDERRATE OPPONENTS" - MPONDA
Silver Strikers head coach, Peter Mponda has described their exit in the Castel Challenge Cup round of 32 stage as painful but it is as a result of underrating a team they were facing.
He said this after suffering a 3-4 defeat in post match penalties following a 2-2 draw in the 90 minutes and Mponda said his players failed to perform better as they usually do.
"It's a painful result yes and I'm not pleased with the performance and also the result, that what happens when you underrate your opponents, we are now out of the Castel Challenge Cup, we move on." Said Mponda.
He further said that he tried to rest some of his players because they are tired after playing last Saturday and have also a tough assignment on Saturday.
The Bankers were also knocked out of the FDH Bank Cup two months ago in a similar fashion when Blue Eagles stunned them in post match penalties.
