MABEDI DEFENDS HIS TACTICS
Flames coach, Patrick Mabedi, said forward Henri Kumwenda is more of versatile as he can play in the wings, behind a striker and a number 9 that's why he was introduced together with Zeliati Nkhoma.
This comes after analysts questioned his approach of the game by starting with Chawanangwa Kaonga and Chifundo Mphasi who almost do the same roles and also the introduction of Kumwenda and Nkhoma in the match.
He said people do not know how Kumwenda plays that's why they questioned him but it was not wrong to introduce him with Nkhoma.
"Henri [Kumwenda] can be used as a number 10, in the wings and a leading striker that's why I played him with Zeliati Nkhoma. You could also see he was coming from the wings meaning he was behind Nkhoma." Said Mabedi.
Flames face a real test on Monday as they play Equatorial Guinea away in their fourth match of the Group H as they have 6 points from three games.
"THE EARLY GOALS DEMORALISED SAO TOME" - MABEDI
Flames coach, Patrick Mabedi, said his team sloppy start into the game against Sao Tome was vindicated by their two early goals which he believed demoralised the opponent.
He said this to journalists after Malawi's 3-1 win at the Bingu National Stadium and said his team looked disjointed at some point of time because they had little time to play together.
"We didnt start well in the game, we were slow but it was good that we were getting the goals that demoralised our friends and we were losing the ball on the midfield, I understand, because we had little time to play together but all in all I must thank the players for they fought to win the game." Said Mabedi.
The team lost its two players due to injuries in the game and the coach said he will wait from the team doctors about the extent of their injuries.
Malawi will leave on Friday ahead of their fourth match in Group H against Equatorial Guinea on Monday. They have 6 points from
ANALYST QUESTIONS MABEDI'S TACTICS
One of the country's soccer analysts, Eric Chiputula, has questioned some of Patrick Mabedi's tactical approach in Flames 3-1 win over Sao Tome saying they were not good.
Chiputula said this after the match at the Bingu National Stadium and questioned how he was fielding some the players and also also the ineffective 4-4-2 system used by the team.
"It's good that we have won but still I don't understand why some decisions were made. I'm not convinced with the 4-4-2 system that is leaving us without a number 10 and no creativity on the midfield."
"I don't also understand why he started with two number 10, Chawanangwa Kaonga and Chifundo Mphasi who almost play similar games and when making chances, he substituted both of them and introduced two number 9's, these things can cost us in tricky games." Said Chiputula.
Despite this, he saluted George Chikooka who was a new face in the team for his good showing into the game.
