"After we fled in DRC due to war, Malawi gave us a second chance" - Malango
USA based forward Mayele Malango said it has been his dream to play for the Flames so that he repays what Malawi did to his family by giving them a second chance after they lost everything due to 1998 war in DRC.
Malango wrote this on his Facebook page on reaction to his first call-up for the Flames ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers next month.
The forward has thanked the country's Football Association for considering him to join the Flames and play for the country where he grew up after leaving his country where he was born due to wars.
"Malawi gave my family and me a second chance at life after we fled the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1998 due to war. We lost everything we had, but Malawi welcomed us with open arms and gave us the opportunity to rebuild from scratch. That act of kindness and generosity will forever be etched in my heart." Wrote Malango.
Malawi is scheduled to face Namibi
