Gift of the givers donates K100 million menstrual cups to FAM
Gift of the Givers Foundations has donated K100 million worthy Menstrual sanitary cups to Football Association of Malawi that will benefit almost 2000 Women's Footballers in the country.
The donation has been made on Friday in a colourful handover event at the Mpira Village in Chiwembe where the Foundation has signed a two year memorandum of Understanding with the association.
Speaking during the event, the country director for the foundation, Sherifa Mia, said they planned to reach out female footballers as they are mostly destructed by menstrual periods and this could bring confidence and improve their performance in the pitch.
"The Cups are sustainable, portable, comfortable and safe to manage menstrual periods. Periods should not be a red card that why we have come to look into the psychological part of the girls so that they focus on performance only," said Mia.
Speaking after receiving the donations, FAM President Fleetwood Haiya thanked the foundation for the timely boost which he said will inspire more girls to come to the game.
"We have been buying sanitary pads for the girls during camping and those at Luwinga Technical Centre so the coming of this donation will help us save money which could be used in other developments of women's football," he said.
The mina sanitary cups which are made of silicone are reusable as they can be used for a period of 5 to 10 years.
These will be given to 350 players in the National Bank of Malawi National Women's Premiership, 750 players in the Regional leagues in the country, the Under 15, 17, 20 and Senior teams.
