Kennedy Green Malunga commonly known as Senator Kennedy is the first Malawian to play professional soccer in Europe.

Senator signed his professional contract with Cercle Brugge in Belgium.

And now Charles Petro is the first Malawian footballer to play in the UEFA Champions League group stage.

Petro's team, Sherrif Tiraspol have qualified for the tournament and are in group D.
