GWENGWE DEBUTS IN NEWPORT'S CARABAO CUP DEFEAT
Malawi and England-based forward Shaquille Gwengwe missed a penalty on his official debut but later provided an assist as Newport County lost 5-4 on penalties to AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup in England on Saturday.
Gwengwe was handed a start for the League Two side and was given the responsibility to take a penalty in the 68th minute, which he missed. Three minutes later, he redeemed himself with an assist for the opener.
The 25-year-old forward was then withdrawn in the 73rd minute. The hosts grabbed a 96th-minute equaliser before going on to win the shootout and progress to the round of 32 of the Carabao Cup.
It was Gwengwe’s first official match since joining Newport from non-league side Poole Town two months ago.
