The local governing football body has released a list of four nominees for the 2021 Airtel Top 8 player of the tournament award.

The four are Nyasa Big Bullets forwards Babatunde Adepoju and Lanjesi Nkhoma as well as Silver Strikers striker Stain Davie and his team-mate Zebron Kalima.

The winner will be crowned at a special ceremony to be hosted by the sponsors Airtel Malawi Plc at a date to be confirmed in due course.

Babatunde wins Airtel Top 8 Golden Boot; sets record as the highest scoring winner

The Nigerian striker underlined his status as one of the complete strikers in the country by bagging 8 goals in Airtel Top 8 competition.

Babatunde Adepoju has been named Airtel Top 8 Golden Boot winner after topping the scorers chat.

After being deemed as a surplus at Mighty Wanderers within the season, Babatunde joined the People's team.

Fittingly, the Airtel Top 8 Golden Boot winner recorded his first hat-trick of the season in all competitions by scoring 4 goals against the former club, Wanderers.

He is the first player to score more than 5 goals in the competition since it was inaugurated in 2017.

In the inaugural year, Khumba Ng'ambi was the first Airtel Top 8 Golden Boot winner with 3 goals, then Joseph Kamwendo won the award in 2018 with 2 goals, and later Khuda Muyaba bagged 2 goals.

In an interview with Babatunde, he attributed the achievements to how Nyasa Big Bullets is organised.

He said "the quality at Bullets in anything they do is making my job easy,".

Supremacy battle! K17 million on the table

On Saturday, 18th December Airtel Top 8 final sets the platform for fans to decide which team is the best between Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers as they are scheduled to battle for K17 million.

The TNM Super League winners, Bullets reached the final after beating Mighty Wanderers 4-1 in the competitions semi-final while Silver Strikers won 2-0 against Civil Sporting.

And now its a matter of days remaining for the duo to lockhorns in the final to end talks that have been there amongst spectators.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) who are administering the tournament have confirmed that the final will be played at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

According to the local governing football body preparations are at advance stage ahead of the Airtel Top 8 final fixture.

In 3 games Silver Strikers have played in Airtel Top 8 competition, they have scored 7 goals and conceded a goal. The Bankers have kept 2 clean sheets.

While the People's team in 3 matches they have scored 9 goals and conceded 3 goals without a clean sheet.

Overall, the competition has now recorded 26 goals and a hat-trick from the current top goal-scorer Babatunde Adepoju.

Wanderers end 2020/21 season trophyless

This follows a 4-1 defeat against Nyasa Big Bullets in Airtel Top 8 competition on Saturday at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The Nomads failed to contain Bullets pressure from the first whistle with the home team finding their first chance of the game at 3 minutes.

Nigerian striker Babatunde Adepoju was the man to watch during the game following his superb performance.

Babatunde scored his first goal at 24 minutes before netting 3 more goals in the final half.

While Wanderers consolation goal was scored by Vincent Nyangulu at 34 minutes.

With the defeat, it means the Lali Lubani side have failed to win any trophy in 2020/21 football season.
