Referees, officials involved in match fixing locally
Over the weekend, MAFCO Head Coach Yohane Fulaye complained of poor refereeing which resulted to his team losing to Bullets, 1-2 in Airtel Top 8.
Fulaye accused the officiating team of favouring the Blantyre based giants in the second leg quarterfinal.
Fulaye's remarks comes 3 months after one of the domestic referees, Arthur Chilimba announced that some team officials and referees are involved in a syndicate of fixing matches locally.
During the presser held by referee Chilimba, confirmed having the evidence of all people involved in the act.
The referee scheduled a second press briefing where he wanted to name the people involved but Football Association of Malawi (FAM) intervened by engaging the referee.
A statement issued by FAM said “Following the tip that has been made available, FAM is determined to get to the bottom of the matter by using appropriate channels.
Corruption is criminal in nature, and therefore, FAM will refer the matter to ACB, which is the competent body with powers to investigate matters of this nature,”
In our next updates we talk to ACB, Arthur Chilimba and FAM on the matter.
