Extreme down Zitha in NDL opener
NBS Bank National Division League rookies, Extreme FC, got off to a flying start after beating Namitete Zitha 1-0 in a league opening match played at the Owen Malijani Stadium in Mchinji on Sunday.
The team's prolific forward, Beston Jimu, netted a sensational goal to secure a well deserved win for the newcomers who dominated the game in front of a packed stadium.
Head coach for the team, Dan Dzimkambani, hailed his players for their brilliant performance despite being a tough match.
"We want to be picking more points this season, we know we will be facing these kind of tough oppositions but we need to be strong enough in order to fight for a good position and even position one at the end of the season," he said.
On the other side, Namitete Zitha head coach Kenwood Nkhoma said his team lacked aggressiveness into the first half but the defeat have given them a room to note more mistake left to become a complete side.
"Sometimes it is better to win and also to lose, in this case we needed a win but we have lessons taken from this match and this is just the first game, all is not lost and we can turn around the tables," said Nkhoma.
The win means Extreme FC are top of the League with three points from one game while Zitha are down to 12th on the table with no point.
