Mlimbika Nets Vital Goal to Snatch Away Goal for Junior Scorchers
Sarah Mlimbika scored a vital goal for Malawi's Under-20 Girls team, giving them an advantage to progress to the next round in the Under-20 World Cup Qualifiers, following a 1-1 draw against Guinea-Bissau at 24 de Setembro on Saturday.
The hosts took the lead through Quita da Silva in the 48th minute, but Mlimbika levelled the scores in the 76th minute, snatching a crucial away goal.
Head coach Maggie Chombo-Sadick was impressed with her team's performance. "We were playing against a stronger side, but we fought hard. In the first half, we were nervous, but in the second half, we pushed after changes and got that goal," she said.
Chombo-Sadick also highlighted areas for improvement, citing the team's missed chances. "There is a need to work on our striking force. We missed a lot of chances in the game."
The return match will be played next week at Bingu National Stadium, with Malawi needing a goalless draw or a win
