TNM Super League 2020/21, what transpired?

The 2020/21 TNM Super League season was a historical one, which the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has administered since 1986 the league was established.

The season produced both good and bad moments. During the season we saw spectators being banned to watch games due to Covid-19, teams facing financial constraints and the league was suspended.

It will be written in history, that the 2020/21 season was the longest Malawi has hard for the past decade.

As they say "Learning is a Lifelong Process" stakeholders involved in the football game in Malawi have been enlightened on how to survive in hard situations like the 2020/21 season.

Imagine, from nowhere teams and spectaors hard to accept that football in Malawi can be played behind closed door.

The just ended football season has taught us great lessons as we continue the journey of improving standards of the game locally.

Teams lacking sponsors has proved to be a contributing factor on how they can perform.

For instance, Ntopwa. The Amagettoh kids started on high note but due to inadequate funds for some operations at the club like paying players bonuses and salaries it demoralised the clubs performance.

And now we will not have the team playing next season in the country's elite league as they have been relegated.

From 2020/21 football season going forward, teams need to embark on commercialisation drive. With this path teams might stop complaining of finances.

A club that is financially stable puts up a good fight in contesting for the title.

The past years we have seen Nyasa Big Bullets lifting the league, its not just a miracle but the team is financially capable to bring in the resources required.

Still it remains a challenge to get the top goal-scorer netting more than 20 goals. This seasons top goal-scorer is Hassan Kajoke of Bullets who scored 15 goals

In 2020/21 seaaon, Nyasa Big Bullets were crowned as the league winners after amassing 62 points from 30 games second by Silver Strikers who finished the season with 58 points.

While Chitipa United, Mzuzu Warriors and Ntopwa have been relegated from the Super League.

Blue Eagles survived the chop in the league due to goal difference. The Lilongwe based team was level on points with Chitipa United at 32 points from 30 matches.
