MALAWI TARGET WIN, NOT DRAW AGAINST ZAMBIA
Malawi Women’s Football National Team head coach Lovemore Fazili says his side will go into their Group C match against Zambia aiming for victory, with a draw only as a fallback if the game gets tough.
He was speaking on Tuesday ahead of the final group match that will decide the quarter-final fate of Malawi, Zambia and Nigeria at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Fazili said the players are fully focused and that winning all three group games would be historic for the Scorchers in their debut appearance at the tournament.
“The game is very important for the team as it will seal our place in the quarter-finals. Finishing with 9 points would be good. We are going only for a win, not a draw,” said Fazili.
He added that the return of Asimenye Simwaka will add more power to the squad, and that Rose Alufandika’s replacement is equally strong after the defender picked up a red card in the previous game.
Malawi need just a point to advance to the quarter-finals after securing back-to-back wins over Nigeria and Egypt.
