LOW FITNESS LEVELS OF LOCALS WORRIES MABEDI
Flames coach, Patrick Mabedi, says much needs to be done in our local league as most players in the league have their fitness levels very low leading to failure to much on in 90 minutes.
He said this ahead of the team's match against Senegal at the Bingu National Stadium on Tuesday afternoon and said most goals which Senegal scored on Friday last week were because of tiredness of the players.
He said, "I think we have more to do in our league as many locals are struggling with fitness which is worrisome, you can see most goals were scored in 70 minutes when most players were tired and they failed to cover up the defense when Senegal attacked so it's because the levels are down."
Meanwhile, Mabedi highlighted the need to get a win in the match as most Malawians are not pleased with the team's Current results.
Flames anchor their group with no point from three games whereas Burkina Faso have already qualified with Senegal on second.

"WE WERE PLAYING A MORE QUALITY TEAM" - MABEDI
Flames coach, Patrick Mabedi, says a red card given to his team on 16th minute cost them a lot and after trying to contain their opponents, Senegal being a good team found a way through into their defense hence the huge margin.
He said this after the team suffered a 4-0 defeat on Friday afternoon when the team conceded three goals in 8 minutes to complete the damage and minimize the chances of progressing to Africa Cup of Nations.
Mabedi congratulated Senegal and said his team played badly in the match but they need to adjust themselves in order to start performing better once more.
"We started very bad but what cost us most was the red card that changed the reflection of the game but overall we have to adjust because we have to act as soon as possible, we sat back because we didn't have numbers when going forward and tried to contain them but like I said Senegal is a good team, they found a way to get through us." Said Mabedi.
He further said that his team lost the balls easily when they had to keep the ball and with the quality in Senegal team, it allowed them to score more goals.
The Flames remain without a win in their group as they have no points from three games they have played in their group and a return match awaits on Tuesday at the Bingu National Stadium.
"WE NEED THE POINTS" - MABEDI
Flames coach, Patrick Mabedi, says his team will fight hard in order to get maximum points against Senegal on Friday as they do not have any point in their group but that will not come in an easy way.
He said this ahead of the match on Friday where he said the team is ready and had adapted well to the hot conditions in the country which will help them to have a good game.
He said he knows that Senegal is a very good team but at the end of the game, each team fields 11 players and they will strive for success.
"We need points as you know we don't have points so the points will help us to build much confidence when we are going home, I know it will not be easy but we need to dig much deeper if we are to get them." Said Mabedi.
He further said he is happy with the shape of the professional players who are looking better than the locals and expects a good game from them.
The team will play Senegal in their third match of their group having lost the first

"PUT US IN PRAYERS SO WE WIN" - MABEDI
Flames coach, Patrick Mabedi, says there is a need to put happy faces back into Malawi after a disappointing 3-2 home defeat over Burundi last Thursday and has asked Malawians to pray for the team.
He has said in the last pre-match interview ahead of their match against Burkina Faso on Tuesday in Malawi where he said the team is in good shape and that the weather is good in the country.
He further said he is aiming for a win in the match and that this will come if they remain clinical in their chances gotten in the match.
He said: "They have problems in defense but they are a good time with very fast players but we need be clinical in our forward line and capitalise every chance we get in this match. The best way to defend is to attack so if we sit back, we will invite trouble then we will attack more and more in order to get goals."
The team will be aiming for their first win in the Group L of the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifying game

MABEDI DEFENDS HIS TACTICS
Flames coach, Patrick Mabedi, said forward Henri Kumwenda is more of versatile as he can play in the wings, behind a striker and a number 9 that's why he was introduced together with Zeliati Nkhoma.
This comes after analysts questioned his approach of the game by starting with Chawanangwa Kaonga and Chifundo Mphasi who almost do the same roles and also the introduction of Kumwenda and Nkhoma in the match.
He said people do not know how Kumwenda plays that's why they questioned him but it was not wrong to introduce him with Nkhoma.
"Henri [Kumwenda] can be used as a number 10, in the wings and a leading striker that's why I played him with Zeliati Nkhoma. You could also see he was coming from the wings meaning he was behind Nkhoma." Said Mabedi.
Flames face a real test on Monday as they play Equatorial Guinea away in their fourth match of the Group H as they have 6 points from three games.
