Sanudi misses penalty as 9-man Hammers knock out Wanderers
Mighty Wanderers were just two minutes away from reaching the semi finals of the Castel Challenge Cup but conceded late before Stanley Sanudi missing a penalty after suffering a 5-3 penalty shootout defeats over Mzuzu City Hammers at the Rumphi Stadium on Sunday.
The Nomads scored from the spot in the 50th minute through Isaac Kaliati before Matthews Banda and Jimmy Msiska all picking second yellow cards for Hammers to stay with 9 players in the pitch but substitute Hassan Luwembe scored a 95th minute penalty to take the game into penalties.
In the shootout, Hassan Luwembe, Isaiah Nyirenda, Alex Orotomal, Aubrey Simbi and Jeremiah Kanyika all scored their kicks for Hammers and Blessings Singini, Sama Thierry Tanjong and Blessings Mwalilino converted for the Nomads but Sanudi's was saved to send the Nomads to off-season.
The Elite League relegated side has been a giant slayer as they also knocked out Silver Strikers in the round of 16 and also beat FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in the semi finals last season.
Hammers have completed the semi final ties as they will face Bullets again in the semi finals while Goshen City Dedza Dynamos will date Blue Eagles in another semi final match.
