Ascent thump Lioness
Ascent Academy went riot over MDF Lioness at the Champions Stadium after handing them a heavy 0-3 defeat to secure a league double over them in a Lilongwe mini-derby on Saturday.
Mayamiko Mkandawire grabbed a brace as Fatima Lali got her fourth goal of the season to secure a big win and edge closer to secure the second spot in the League.
Head coach for Ascent Academy, Thom Nkolongo, hailed his players for their outstanding performance of the match.
"We played very well especially in the first half where we scored two goals but in the second half, Lioness began to attack more but after the third goal we closed them. Second position is possible as we just need a win to achieve it," said Nkolongo.
On his side, Captain John Kaputa of MDF Lioness dismissed that Champion Stadium is their home and said he has noted areas for improvement in the team.
"We just play games here but we don't train here so it is like our neutral ground just as the travelling team. The game was tough but we have noted areas to improve and come next season we will beat Ascent, also we didn't have our top stars like Sabina Thom, Asimenye Simwaka and Fazilah Chiyembekezo but that's not an excuse," he said.
Ascent remain secomd in the standings with 35 points from 11 wins, two draws and three defeats in the League while MDF Lioness drop down to fifth in the League with 25 points from 7 wins, four draws and five defeats.
