Extreme hold Masters in first pre-season friendly
Masters Football Club have begun their pre-season matches with a draw after being held to a 1–1 result by second-tier league side Extreme FC at Mchinji Community Ground on Sunday.
The newly built side found themselves trailing in the first half when Titho Soko opened the scoring in the 18th minute. However, after changes in the second half, Patrick Phiri levelled in the 72nd minute to settle the match in a draw.
Head coach Peter Mponda said the second-half changes improved the team’s performance after a poor display in the first half.
“Extreme were good in the first half, but in the second half we improved after making changes. It is a new team and we needed to see where we are now. I believe we will build a good team looking at the second-half performance,” said Mponda.
On his part, head coach Dan Zinkambani hailed his players for their impressive performance in the game.
“We played very well in the first half where we created many chances, but we scored just one. In the second half we still did well, but we defended too much. All in all, we wanted to give confidence to the boys by stopping this big team,” he said.
Masters FC are currently assessing their players who have just been recruited and signed after purchasing Baka City’s slot in the Elite League.
Mponda has hinted that the team will have more friendlies so that they build a strong team for this season in the FDH Premiership, and he also thanked Extreme FC for giving them a good game.
