Henry's brace lifts Silver Ladies close to NBM Premiership trophy
Silver Strikers Ladies are just three points away from winning the National Bank of Malawi National Women Premiership after capitalising on Ascent Academy's slip to beat Mighty Wanderers Queens 2-0 at the Silver Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Bankers were ahead just 8 minutes into the game through their hot prospect Deborah Henry who later grabbed her second of the game in the 91st minute to seal the win and take her tally to 22 goals this season.
The two goals for Henry earned her another player of the match accolade while extending her scoring streak to 13 straight game as she failed to get a goal in the Bankers opening League match only.
Head coach for the Bankers, Andrew Chikhosi, said it was a tough match as Wanderers Queens forced them to play their unusual game but was happy with the win.
''We planned earlier on that we should be trying to be getting points in our games, if we do not score we should not
concede, if we concede we should score more to win and that if we drop points it has to be a draw and i am happy that we are earning points in our matches,'' said Chikhosi.
On his part, Thom Kazembe of Wanderers Queens said that his team is still learning in their first season and believes that they will better in the next season.
''The problem that we are having is that we are building a team and that many are playing at an elite stage for the first so for this game it is gone, we are focusing onto the next match,'' said Kazembe.
The win took the Bankers points up to 39 points from 13 wins and one defeat on top of the League while Mighty Wanderers Women have dropped down to 7th in the League with 20 points from 6 wins, two draws and five losses.
